Bitcasa vs Box: What are the differences?
Developers describe Bitcasa as "Your External Hard Drive in the Cloud". Your personal cloud storage platform. Simple, private & secure, as much space as you need, for all your devices. On the other hand, Box is detailed as "Build Innovative Applications on Box". The Box API gives you access to the content management features you see in our web app and lets you extend them for use in your own app. It strives to be RESTful and is organized around the main resources you’re familiar with from the Box web interface.
Bitcasa and Box belong to "File Storage" category of the tech stack.
Some of the features offered by Bitcasa are:
- Your data is yours alone. - Your files are encrypted before they leave your computer, meaning only you can see the contents.
- Store once, access anywhere. - Have a movie you want to watch, but can’t find the right movie player? Bitcasa can play it, including on your mobile phone.
- Bitcasa never runs out of space. - Rather than just “syncing” your files between computers, Bitcasa is like an external hard drive that you can access anywhere.
On the other hand, Box provides the following key features:
- Enterprise-grade file sharing
- Native mobile apps
- File sharing links
Key criteria for that choice. I needed a collaborative backup tool for a 15 people team. All people would have access to both their individual private space that should synchronize automatically to/from their desktop and various shared spaces, with various kinds of access rights. Only Box would allow high fine tuning of the access rights. Multi-platform was important too. The ease to transfer ownership of a folder from one departing colleague to their N+1 was a real plus.
